The illumination box is engineered to tell a story as a physical representation of Anthony Somebody’s artist statement. The DJ booth sits inside of a lighted cube meant to isolate the DJ from the people. The intention is to show him in a vulnerable and intimate position, while the crowd is having a shared experience. He will be playing from inside of the box only wearing in-ear monitors and a Woojer basepack. With the basepack, he is able to act as a conductor of sound and truly perform a show for the audience. The lights represent the light that artists give off when they are sharing their gift with the world.

The thematic direction of this exhibition is intended to showcase and celebrate what people of color are capable of creating when focusing on high production value. We know that creativity and innovation is weaved into our DNA, but our community is not always able to access the resources we need to ultimately execute.
